I would like to introduce you to Cole Millen! He blogs at http://colemill.blogspot.com.au. Cole described himself as an avid traveler and foodie who never forgets that life’s best memories are made through real life apprehension of legitimate “experiences”. I agree that we can never forget life’s best memories! Cole has kindly done a guest post about his experience in staying healthy while travelling. Enjoy his post- and don’t forget to check out his blog too!
Travelling can be a very exciting time, but it can also be a very stressful time. From airport screenings and spending extra money, it does not take long for someone to become frustrated. Therefore, people must always be sure to take the necessary steps to keep themselves healthy while they are away. In addition to exercise, the foods that people eat can also help to alleviate or increase their stress levels.
Before going on vacation, people should always learn about the hotel’s food service, pack a healthy meal for the airport, and learn about the restaurants that are near the hotel.
Also, people should not forget about the importance of eating healthy at the airport. The airport will be one of the most stressful places on the trip; therefore, if people are eating fatty and greasy foods, their stress levels will be increased. One suggestion for healthy eating would be to simply eat a healthy meal before arriving to the airport. If a healthy meal is not eaten beforehand, the passenger should look for salads, fish, or other healthy foods. Finally, most passengers will experience some type of layover. During the layover, passengers can exercise by walking around the airport or by taking the stairs instead of the elevator.
In order to eat healthy on vacation, people should be sure to research about the hotel’s amenities and services to ensure that they can maintain their healthy lifestyle while away. If the hotel has room service, people should determine if their food can be cooked to their preferences. If so, it would be appropriate to ask for baked foods instead of fried foods; furthermore, people should adhere to eating more fish and poultry products as opposed to red meats. In addition to researching about the food products, people should also research about how health friendly the hotel is in general. For example, it would be a good idea to find a hotel that offers exercise facilities. If it does not have any exercise facilities, then the hotel guest should determine if exercise facilities are nearby. Often times this can be difficult.
I recent took a trip out west and managed to find a great site provided extremely helpful information through consumer reviews called Gogobot. I found a great list of reviews for Las Vegas hotels regarding not only their amenities and services but also the restaurants in the surrounding area. This made it easy to stay healthy even in the buffet ridden Sin City.
Finally, people will have to eat when they are on their trip, and usually, they will eat at the restaurants near the hotel. Once again, this emphasizes the importance of searching for a health friendly area. If the area only has fast food restaurants nearby, it will be extremely difficult to eat healthy. Make sure to eat healthy snacks throughout the day to prevent yourself from splurging at the restaurant. Once the person has arrived to the restaurant, he or she should be sure to stay away from buttery foods or foods smothered in some type of gravy. The best foods to eat will be fish, poultry, fruits, and vegetables. Also, if the person wants some type of dessert, he or she should avoid ice cream, brownies, or some other type of high calorie sweet.
By substituting these types of desserts with sweet fruits, the person will satisfy his or her need for something sweet, and it will not come at the expense of eating something unhealthy. Although people have lots of responsibilities when they are travelling, their number one priority should be their health. By eating healthy and exercising each day, they will be taking the steps to stay healthy.
Thank you for sharing Cole! I will also be travelling overseas soon- and I will definitely plan to stay healthy during my trip. Holiday weight gain is so difficult to avoid but we can always try our best! Don’t you agree my readers?
